SD Memory Card Formatter for Mac formats SD, SDHC, SDXC and SDUC memory cards in line with the SD File System Specification created by the SD Association. The SD Association recommends using this app rather than the formatting tools built into macOS, which can format these cards but may not be optimized for them and may deliver lower performance.
The app does not format the protected area on SD, SDHC and SDXC cards, which must be formatted by an appropriate PC application or an SD host device with SD security functions. SDUC cards have no protected area. The app does not support cards encrypted with Windows' BitLocker To Go, so those cards must be unlocked before formatting.
The Mac version supports macOS 11 Big Sur through macOS 15 Sequoia. On Macs with Apple silicon, you may be asked to install Rosetta to open the app. Administrator rights are required to run it. Cards can be accessed through an SD card slot on a PC or a USB SD card reader, and you should confirm that your reader is compatible with the card type you are using.
