About
SEGGER Embedded Studio for Arm and RISC-V is an all-in-one IDE for embedded development. It combines an editor, compiler, debugger, and simulator in a single application, and it offers a Visual Studio-like interface along with a wide range of libraries and example projects. It can be used on Windows, Linux, or MacOS, which helps teams with different preferences and setups work together. It is compatible with a wide range of microcontrollers, including Arm and RISC-V, so developers can use one IDE across different projects.
The IDE includes two ready-to-run toolchains, SEGGER's and GCC, and can also use external toolchains such as LLVM, IAR, or the ARM/KEIL compiler. It is designed to reduce code size and improve execution speed, which suits resource-constrained applications such as IoT devices, wearables, and medical devices. Development support includes syntax highlighting, code completion, real-time error checking, a package manager, a project manager, and code analyzers for memory, stack, static code, and execution trace and profiling.
For debugging, Embedded Studio lets users set breakpoints, step through code, inspect variables, and evaluate expressions. Its graphical debugger integrates with J-Link and offers visualization of application behavior. An RTOS awareness plug-in shows task activity and stack use during debugging sessions, and the included emSim instruction-set simulator supports testing of supported architectures.
