About
SF Symbols is a library of over 7,000 symbols built to work with San Francisco, the system font for Apple platforms. Each symbol comes in nine weights and three scales, automatically aligns with text, and can be exported and edited in vector graphics tools to create custom symbols that share its design characteristics and accessibility features. Symbols adapt automatically to a user's reading direction and include localized designs for over 20 international scripts.
SF Symbols also offers Enhanced Search, which uses semantic understanding to find the most relevant symbols for a description written in your own words, even when the terms don't exactly match a symbol's name. Its animation tools include Draw On and Draw Off presets, which animate symbols in and out with a handwriting-inspired movement, along with annotation tools for creating Draw animations for custom symbols. Configurable animations such as Bounce, Wiggle, Rotate, and Breathe, plus Magic Replace for transitions between related symbols, are available across the library.
For color and progress, SF Symbols provides four rendering modes: Monochrome, Hierarchical, Palette, and Multicolor, with optional gradient rendering available in all modes. Variable Rendering lets symbols act as progress indicators, using Variable Color to change layer opacity in sequence and Variable Draw to convey value changes with greater precision.
