About
Shade is an all-in-one platform that the website positions as a replacement for LucidLink, Frame.io, and Iconik. It mounts your cloud drives to your computer like a local drive, so you can use and share cloud files without downloading or syncing first. You mount the drives you need in the Shade desktop app, then press ⌘O on Mac to open assets locally. You can drag MXF, R3D, MP4, and BRAW files directly into your editing software.
Shade also helps you find and organize media. Its AI search lets you look up assets with full sentences, facial recognition, transcripts, and precision filters, without relying on tags. You can set up automated custom metadata fields for each drive and share them in dedicated spreadsheet views. Shade automatically transcodes files and offers credit-based transcription for audio and video, and you can export transcripts.
For teamwork, Shade supports granular permissions for internal and external collaborators. Team members can comment, reply, mention others, react with emojis, and review assets, with time-stamped comments for precise feedback. The website says Shade is made for remote creative teams and lets them work together from anywhere.
