About
Shimo is a VPN client for the Mac that supports a wide range of protocols, including WireGuard, Amnezia, OpenVPN, IPsec, Cisco AnyConnect, Fortinet, Palo Alto GlobalProtect, Pulse Secure / Ivanti, and SSH with port forwarding. It runs from the menu bar, where you can connect or disconnect, view statistics and reports, and check your secured IP address. It requires macOS 13 or later and supports Apple Silicon.
Shimo can hold several VPN connections at once, using different protocols, and organizes them with groups and a search function. VPN connections can be set up automatically based on triggers tied to your network configuration, your geographic location, or your Wi-Fi connection and its encryption. Two-factor authentication is supported, and account information, including passwords, PINs, and certificates, is stored in the macOS Keychain.
The website describes Shimo's security as built on AES-256 encryption, SHA-2 hashing, and Diffie-Hellman key exchange for untrusted networks, with additional methods such as certificate-based authentication, TANs, tokens, and SecurID supported via XAUTH. A free trial is available.
