About
Shottr is a lightweight screenshot tool for Mac, built for designers, front-end engineers, mobile developers, and anyone who cares about pixels. It is a small native app (about 2.3 MB) optimized for Apple Silicon, and it is designed to capture screenshots quickly, taking about 17 ms to grab a screenshot and about 165 ms to show it.
Shottr offers a range of editing and capture tools. Users can add text, freehand drawings, highlights, and spotlights; add gradient backgrounds, shadows, and rounded corners; take scrolling screenshots of long web pages or chat conversations in any app; pixelate or remove sensitive information; and extract text from any area of the screen with OCR, which also reads QR codes. Additional features include combining multiple captures on one canvas, pinning screenshots as always-on-top windows, overlaying images for before/after comparisons, measuring distances on screen with arrow keys, zooming in on pixels, and picking colors.
Shottr can be used for free, though the app periodically asks users to consider buying it. It requires macOS Catalina (10.15) or later. It contacts shottr.cc to check for updates and to validate the license, and it collects anonymized telemetry, which can be turned off in Preferences.
