About
Sloth is a native Mac app that shows all open files and sockets in use by every running process on your system, making it easy to see which apps are using which files and sockets. It can display open files, directories, IP sockets, devices, Unix domain sockets, and pipes. You can filter results by name, access mode, volume, type, location, or regular expressions, and sort by name, process ID, user ID, process type, bundle identifier, and more. It also shows IP socket status, protocol, and version, along with sockets and pipes established between processes.
Sloth includes an inspection window with detailed macOS and Unix file, socket, and process information, a contextual menu for file operations, and in-app authentication to run with root privileges. It is built on the lsof command line tool, parsing its output into a searchable, filterable outline view. The app is written in Objective-C/Cocoa.
Sloth is free, open source software hosted on GitHub, and has been continuously developed and maintained since 2004. The latest version, 3.6, requires macOS 11 or later and can be downloaded directly or installed via Homebrew. Older versions are available for earlier macOS releases: version 3.4 for macOS 10.13 to 10.15, and version 3.2 for macOS 10.9 to 10.12.
