SolveSpace is a free (GPLv3) parametric 3D CAD tool. For 3D parts, you can draw with extrudes, revolves, and helixes, and combine shapes using Boolean union, difference, and intersection operations. For 2D parts, you draw the part as a single section and export it as DXF, PDF, or SVG. You can also use 3D assembly to verify fit.
SolveSpace supports fabrication and mechanism work. You can export STL or other triangle meshes expected by most 3D printers. For CAM, you can export 2D vector art for a waterjet machine or laser cutter, or generate STEP or STL files for import into third-party CAM software. Its constraint solver can simulate planar or spatial linkages using pin, ball, or slide joints.
SolveSpace also covers plane and solid geometry. It replaces hand-solved trigonometry and spreadsheets with a live dimensioned drawing. Tutorials are available on the website, and the app can be downloaded from there.
