About
Sonic Pi is a free, open source code-based music creation and performance tool. On a Mac, you can download a .dmg installer for Apple silicon or Intel-based Macs running macOS 13 Ventura or later. The Mac app supports low-latency audio through your interface via Core Audio, along with gamepad input, live audio in and out, well-timed MIDI and OSC, and Ableton Link and Link Audio.
Sonic Pi lets you compose and perform music by writing code. Synths are code, so you can control sound with algorithmic precision, and you can build live loops, samples, and effects. Deterministic randomness means a program plays exactly the same every time. Rather than sequencing notes, you write melodies, and rather than iterating, you write repeating rhythms.
Sonic Pi is used for live coded performances and by musicians, DJs, and educators. It is supported by a community of over 200 contributors and has been in development since 2012.
