About
SpaceLauncher for macOS lets you run actions from the keyboard by holding Space and pressing a trigger key. Tapping Space still types a space as usual, and holding Space still lets you pan a canvas by clicking and dragging. Shortcuts can be a single key or a sequence of keys, and they can run several actions without releasing Space. Actions include opening apps, URLs, files, and folders, running menu commands, simulating keystrokes, and running AppleScript, shell commands, or files. A hint window shows the keys you can press next and can be made to appear instantly, after a delay, or never. You can also search your shortcuts by pressing / while the window is open.
Shortcuts can be limited to specific apps, and apps can be added to a disabled list. Space is the default leader key, but you can choose another key, a key combination, or a single modifier, and different shortcuts can use different leaders. SpaceLauncher warns about exact and prefix conflicts when you save shortcuts.
SpaceLauncher requires Accessibility access to see your keystrokes. Your configuration can be exported as plain-text JSON, and bindings can be exported as .slbindings files, then imported by merging or replacing. Local timestamped backups help recover a damaged configuration. SpaceLauncher can be evaluated for free with no time limit, and a license costs $19.99 as a one-time purchase. It requires macOS 12.0 or later.
