About
SpectrumViz is a menu bar app for Mac that turns the sound your Mac plays into columns of glowing LEDs, like the display on a hi-fi amplifier. It works with music, video, and games. You can park it in a corner of the screen, float it above other windows, or run it full screen in its own Space.
You can choose from four LED color schemes (80s Hi-Fi, Plasma Red, Amber, and Rainbow), display 16, 24, or 32 bands in stereo or mono, and turn the peak indicator and frequency labels on or off. The display can be placed in any of the four screen corners at 10 to 50 percent of the screen width. The app runs with no Dock icon, with everything accessed from the menu bar icon.
SpectrumViz asks only for audio capture permission, never for screen recording. macOS describes any access to played sound as "recording", but the app only analyses the sound to light up the LEDs, and nothing is saved and no audio leaves your Mac. If the LEDs don't move, choose Allow Audio Capture from the menu bar icon to open the right System Settings pane.

All release notesThe LEDs no longer freeze when your Mac's audio briefly drops out. The frequency bands now always span 40 Hz to 16 kHz, matching their labels.
