About
SpotMenu is a minimalist menu bar utility for macOS that shows the artist and song title of your currently playing track. Hovering over the panel reveals play/pause, skip, and album art controls, and global keyboard shortcuts let you control playback without opening the app. You can choose Spotify or Apple Music, or let SpotMenu automatically detect whichever player is active. Live updates keep the display in sync with playback changes.
SpotMenu is built with Swift and SwiftUI and includes display options such as a compact view mode, adjustable max width, and toggles for the artist, song title, and icons. The player overlay's colors, blur intensity, and tint opacity can be customized, and shortcuts can be set for play/pause, next/previous track, and liking tracks. Track liking/unliking works only with Spotify and requires setting up a Spotify Developer App to add your Client ID.
SpotMenu can be downloaded from GitHub Releases, where the app is signed, notarized, and updated automatically via Sparkle, or installed with Homebrew using `brew install --cask spotmenu`. It can also be built from source on macOS 13 (Ventura) or later with Xcode 15 or later. The project is released under the MIT License.
