Squirrel (鼠鬚管) is the Mac app for Rime, a Chinese input method engine. The current listed version is 1.1.2, and it requires macOS 13.0 or later. After installing it, switch to the Rime input method to start typing Chinese.
To choose an input scheme, press Ctrl+` or F4 to open the scheme menu. From there you can switch between your enabled schemes, such as 朙月拼音 (Luna Pinyin), 注音 (Zhuyin), and 倉頡 (Cangjie). You can also adjust some of Rime's most commonly used options.
The website describes Rime as supporting many input schemes, including pinyin, Zhuyin, Cangjie, Wubi, and Emoji, and notes that the code is open source.
