About
SQuirreL SQL is a graphical Java program for working with any JDBC-compliant database. It lets you view a database's structure, browse data in tables, and issue SQL commands. The website offers a download installer for Mac OS, and SQuirreL 5.1.0 requires at least Java 17.
Version 5.1.0 adds features such as toggling table columns between a monospaced and default font, rerunning SQL results automatically after a configurable number of seconds, and running bookmarks with the syntax @runbookmark. Other additions include MS Excel export that can add or replace sheet-tabs, executing SQL in multiple sessions, single-click connection to multiple aliases, and enhanced security for encrypting alias passwords. Users can also copy tables in the Jira/Cloud table format and display user bookmarks as a tree.
The SQL editor is based on RSyntaxTextArea. The website also describes a snapshot release candidate for 5.2.0 that adds MCP-server functionality for connecting AI tools such as Claude, Cursor, or ChatGPT, but this is a pre-release and is not part of the 5.1.0 release.
