About
Startup Folder creates a Startup folder in your home directory. Anything you place in it runs automatically at startup, including apps, scripts, Shortcuts, and links. You can drag apps in with Command-Option to create an alias, drag links directly from the browser address bar, add a Shortcut by creating an empty file named Shortcut Name.shortcut, or write scripts directly inside the folder. The app also provides an interface for choosing apps, picking Shortcuts, creating scripts, and managing startup items.
The app runs a background agent that launches and keeps track of startup items. The website says the agent uses zero resources and has no impact on system performance. Startup Folder can launch apps hidden at startup and can force hide apps that insist on showing a window, which is useful for apps you want available in the background for later use.
Startup Folder can also keep apps and scripts alive by relaunching them if they crash, which helps with apps that crash often. A built-in crash loop detection mechanism stops relaunching an app or script that crashes too frequently. The app is compatible with macOS 14.0 (Sonoma) and later, and can be installed with Homebrew using brew install startupfolder.
