Stenotypist is a Mac app that acts as your personal stenographer. It sits silently in your menu bar, listening to speech and audio and transcribing it for you, with privacy in mind. As it listens, words appear one by one on screen, so you can watch the transcription happen in real time.

Transcription is powered by 100% local AI models that run entirely in memory. No audio is saved; only the resulting transcripts are kept. This means your recordings never need to leave your Mac, and no audio files are stored on your device.

All of your prior transcriptions are kept in the app with timestamps. From within Stenotypist, you can review past transcripts, copy them, export them, or delete them.
