About
MSBuild Structured Log Viewer opens MSBuild binary logs (.binlog) recorded with commands such as `dotnet build -bl` or `msbuild /bl`. On Mac, you can double-click a .binlog file to open it in the viewer. The viewer can also build projects and solutions, or open existing .binlog and .xml log files, and it can save logs to .xml.
The viewer helps you navigate large builds. You can collapse sections you don't need and use intelligent search to find events. It can show the source of projects and targets embedded in the log, along with a preprocessed view of each file with all imports inlined. Binary logs capture more detail than diagnostic-level text logs and are much smaller.
Binlogs can contain sensitive information such as environment variables, local paths, and secrets passed to tasks. To share a log safely, use the Redact option under the File menu. Autodetection covers only a limited set of patterns and is best-effort, so the site advises passing sensitive literals to the redaction operation explicitly.
