About
SuperDuper! 4 is a backup app for Mac, rebuilt on the latest Apple technologies with a new copy engine. The website says it makes copies 2x or more faster, and its Smart Update can take less than a minute for subsequent backups. Copies can be configured by clicking words in a plain-English sentence, and folders can be dragged and dropped for the source or destination. Copies can be scheduled, and they run whether SuperDuper is open or not, even if you're not logged in. SuperDuper wakes the Mac if needed, and several copies can run at once.
While copies run, live status updates in real time, and a menu bar extra shows how many are in progress. SuperDuper estimates how long each copy will take, and when a copy finishes, a summary shows what was copied and how fast. An on-device Apple Intelligence summary explains what happened, and a What happened? section gives guidance if a copy fails.
SuperDuper says it sets up copies to be bootable, though it notes Apple's involvement, and recommends SSD drives rather than thumb drives or cards. A backup does not need to be bootable to be restorable. The latest release, 4.0.10, is a security fix: snapshots are now mounted at a location only the root user can access, rather than where other software could reach them. The app requires macOS 14 or later, and a free trial is available.
