About
Syntax Highlight is a Mac app that offers a Quick Look extension for previewing source files. It requires macOS 12.0 or later, and it uses Highlight to render source code with syntax highlighting. For macOS 11 and 10.15, the latest compatible version is 2.1.30.
You can install Syntax Highlight by downloading the precompiled release, installing it with Homebrew using the command "brew install syntax-highlight", or building it from source. The precompiled app is codesigned and notarized. After installation, launch the application at least once so the system can detect the Quick Look extension, which you can then enable in System Preferences > Extensions > Quick Look. The application also checks for updates automatically when it launches.
The Quick Look extension identifies supported formats by Uniform Type Identifier (UTI) rather than file name extension alone. Most programming languages are supported, and some plain files without an extension can also be handled.
