About
TaskExplorer shows every process running on your Mac, live, along with its code signing status, loaded dylibs, open files, and network connections. Processes appear the moment they start and disappear when they exit. Version 3.0 is a ground-up rewrite built on Apple's Endpoint Security framework, and it includes a built-in AI assistant. It requires macOS 14 or newer and runs on Apple silicon or Intel.
The AI assistant answers questions such as "what's listening on the network?" using TaskExplorer's live data, and it can drive the UI. It runs on-device via Apple Intelligence, or with your own Claude or ChatGPT API key. You can filter by text or #keyword tokens, switch between a flat list and a tree view, inspect full details for any selected item, and see anything VirusTotal flags shown in red. You can also export all processes, dylibs, files, and connections as JSON, from the app or the command line.
TaskExplorer needs two permissions, granted in System Settings: the system extension and Full Disk Access. Adding a VirusTotal key, which is free, lets the app flag known malware. Adding a Claude or OpenAI key is optional, and keys are stored in your keychain. Users looking for an older version can use TaskExplorer 2.1.0, which supports macOS 11 to 13.
