About
Terax is a lightweight AI terminal for macOS that brings a terminal, built-in editor, AI agents, and live web preview into one pane. It is open source under Apache-2.0, has no telemetry, and is about 7 MB on disk with a roughly 300 ms cold start. No account is required to download it.
The terminal uses xterm.js with a WebGL renderer and supports multiple tabs, a file explorer with keyboard navigation, and project-wide search. The editor includes AI autocomplete and real Vim mode. Source control covers hunk-level staging, committing with a shortcut, and a commit graph.
AI agents can browse files, run commands, and propose changes, and every edit appears in a reviewable diff before it touches disk. You can bring your own key (BYOK) or run fully local models through LM Studio. The web preview auto-detects dev servers such as Vite and Next and opens them as a tab beside your editor. Apple Silicon and Intel builds are available.
