About
TextGrabber2 is a free, open-source Mac menu bar “Copy-to-Action” tool. It lets you extract text from copied images and run actions based on system services that support Apple Shortcuts. You can also copy text and automate tasks, automatically prune clipboard data using custom rules or services, add key bindings for common actions, and use built-in tools like Translate and Quick Look.
TextGrabber2 is not a screenshot tool, so it doesn't require Screen Recording or Accessibility access. Instead, it relies on the keyboard shortcuts you already use. Text extraction uses Apple's built-in Vision framework, which runs on-device. The developer notes that it is often superior to many paid services.
To install, download TextGrabber2.dmg from the latest release, open it, and drag TextGrabber2.app to Applications. The app checks for updates automatically, though updates are likely to be infrequent and typically limited to bug fixes. The project is released under the MIT license.
