About
Cling is a Mac app for finding files instantly. It uses its own search engine with a binary index of your entire filesystem, so fuzzy searches across millions of files return in under 100ms. Unlike Spotlight, Raycast, or Alfred, Cling can find system files, hidden files, dotfiles, and app data that the Spotlight index doesn't include. Search operators, exact mode, and content search with [square brackets] help narrow results, and a floating search bar or a full window can be used.
Once you've found a file, you can act on it with keyboard hotkeys: open it with another app, copy its path, batch rename, preview it with QuickLook, or drag and drop it. Files can be collected in a stash that stays pinned above results and survives restarts, and a private link can be created for selected files, sent directly from your Mac without uploading them anywhere. Pressing ⌥⏎ drops selected files into the focused field of the app you were using before Cling. Cling also supports cloud folders such as iCloud Drive and Dropbox, external volumes, and file previews, and it can be extended through an MCP server for AI agents, a Raycast extension, and an Alfred workflow.
Cling runs on macOS 14.0 and later. It is included in a 14-day free trial, after which a lifetime license keeps its Pro features unlocked. It can be installed with Homebrew using `brew install --cask thelowtechguys-cling`.
