About
TheCommander is a freeware dual-panel file manager for macOS, inspired by Total Commander. It offers two independent file panels, each with its own tabs, navigation, and selection, and lets you copy and move files between panels efficiently. File operations include copy (F5) and move (F6) with progress display, conflict resolution (overwrite, skip, or rename, with "apply to all" for batches), drag and drop, and a clipboard with cut, copy, and paste. You can also create folders and files, rename inline or in bulk with live preview, delete to the Trash or permanently, select files by pattern, and split or merge files.
TheCommander also handles archives and remote servers. It can create, extract, and browse ZIP, TAR, TAR.GZ, TAR.BZ2, RAR, 7Z, XZ, LZMA, JAR, APK, and IPA archives like regular folders, and it can verify archive integrity and work with encrypted ZIP, RAR, and 7z archives. For remote access, it supports SFTP, FTP/FTPS, and SMB/CIFS, with saved connection profiles, passwords stored in the macOS Keychain, a transfer queue with pause and resume, and the ability to edit files directly on the server.
The app is available in German and English and requires macOS 14 or later. Themes, fonts, columns, and external editors can be configured to suit your workflow.
