About
TheiaIDE is an open-source, AI-native IDE for cloud and desktop, built on the Theia Platform. You can bring your own API key or subscription and connect any model, whether cloud, self-hosted, or fully local. The IDE sends no telemetry on your code, prompts, or AI usage, and it has no vendor lock-in.
TheiaIDE is compatible with the VS Code extension ecosystem, and its website points to more than 3,000 extensions available at open-vsx.org. It supports language development through the Language Server Protocol, including Python, Java, JavaScript, and C++. Its workbench offers theming, a dynamic toolbar, detachable views, and tab management. TheiaIDE is an open alternative to VS Code and is not a fork of it.
TheiaIDE is available for macOS in both x86 and ARM builds. The website notes that the x86 version may run slowly and unstably on recent ARM systems and recommends the dedicated ARM build for those machines.
