About
Tim is a time tracker for macOS that keeps things simple and straightforward. Time is visible right in the menu bar and can be controlled with keyboard shortcuts. You can create, track, and edit tasks and time records, organize them into groups or with tags, and review them through charts showing hours, averages, and revenue. Time can be filtered by date range and tags, and timesheets can be exported to CSV, JSON, PDF, or iCal. The app also includes invoicing, which turns billable hours into totals based on your hourly rates, applies tax and payment terms, and exports a PDF ready to send to clients.
Tim emphasizes privacy and control. All data stays on your device, and no account or internet connection is required. Automatic backups help prevent data loss, and you can download all application data as a backup or to import on another device. Idle detection prompts you to handle time when you return to your computer, and archiving lets you keep older data out of your main workflow and menu bar. Preferences cover time formatting, display, currency, and sound.
The app features a native macOS interface with light and dark mode support and is designed to use little memory and respect battery life. For users who want to build custom automations, Tim integrates with AppleScript, Shortcuts, Spotlight, deep links, and x-callback-url. Tim is available to try for free on the Mac App Store with limited functionality, and the Tim Pro in-app purchase unlocks the full feature set. Tim Pro can also be purchased and downloaded directly from the developer's website.
What's new
All release notes• Added search to the navigator. • AppleScript and Shortcuts can now list and find tasks. Use them with tools like Raycast or Alfred. • Better messages and empty states to explain why no data shows for the current date range or filter. • Fixed relative date ranges not moving to the new day at midnight. Manual time entry improvements: • Tim can now fix overlapping records for you. It shows the changes before it applies them. • You can change the task of the running record, or merge it with other records, while the timer runs. • A new record starts on the date range you are viewing. Before, it always started today. • A new record selects the task you edited most recently.
