About
Tracexy is a native macOS app that starts from applications and sessions rather than a long list of packets. You can capture live traffic or open a saved trace, then follow a network failure from the app to the session and the packet that explains it. Investigation happens across Projects, History and Findings, and reviewed evidence can be handed off afterward. Packet data stays local by default.
To begin a capture, choose an interface such as Wi-Fi, Ethernet, Thunderbolt, VPN, a tunnel, or loopback, and set a BPF filter to scope recording. Live traffic can be grouped by application, domain, and IP address, and narrowed by protocol to reach the sessions behind a failure. Tracexy supports PCAP and PCAPNG files. Its Community I/O Graphs show packet and byte rates across the capture timeline, and Focus Set narrows a large session list to the ones that matter.
Within a session, you can inspect decoded layers, session timing, and raw bytes in the hex view to explain what failed. Flow Map groups destinations in a saved capture, with registry regions shown as context rather than server locations. Tracexy requires macOS 14 or later, is notarized, is licensed under AGPL-3.0, and is available as a Homebrew cask, with Community 0.9.2 currently available and a Product Hunt launch planned for 24 November 2026.
