About
Tracker is a free video analysis and modeling tool built on the Open Source Physics (OSP) Java framework and designed for use in physics education. It combines video with computer modeling, letting users track objects manually or automatically, measure position, velocity, and acceleration, and compare real-world footage with model overlays that are synchronized and scaled to the video.
Tracker supports a wide range of video formats, including mp4, avi, wmv, flv, mov, animated gifs, and numbered image sequences, and includes video filters such as brightness/contrast, strobe, ghost trails, perspective correction, and radial distortion correction. Its data tools cover coordinate system calibration, customizable units and variables, protractors and tape measures, a circle fitter, and curve fitting. Users can export data to delimited text files or the clipboard.
Tracker is completely free and open source, is available in 31 languages, and includes built-in help, video tutorials, and a Library Browser for saving, searching, and sharing Tracker projects. The Mac installer is provided through the project's download links, and the app can also be run from a USB drive without installation.
