About
UnicodeChecker is a freeware Mac app for exploring and converting Unicode. Version 1.25.1 (about 4MB) requires macOS X 10.13 or later, and it uses data from The Unicode Standard, Version 17.0.0. For each codepoint, it shows the Unicode number and UTF encodings, along with related codepoints and decomposition. You can browse by plane, codepoint number, or character block, and view Unihan data such as definitions, variants, pronunciations, and older encodings for many Asian codepoints. Codepoints can be found by name or Unihan definition, or through Spotlight.
UnicodeChecker also converts text to and from HTML, CSS, URLs, IDNA, and various programming languages. Its Unicode Normalisation feature indicates whether a string is already normalised (NFC, NFKC, NFD, or NFKD). The Split Up and Diff tools analyse a string codepoint by codepoint and highlight differences, and the Unshredder utility helps reconstruct text that was saved as UTF-8 but interpreted in a different character encoding.
Most features are available in other applications through the system-wide Services menu and AppleScript. The included help book provides more detailed information.
