About
Unthrottled is a free Mac app for very large downloads, requiring macOS 13 or later on Apple silicon or Intel. You paste a direct download link or a transfer page link from your email, choose an external drive, and the files save straight onto that drive rather than piling up in Downloads. Before writing anything, Unthrottled checks the drive: it warns you if there isn't enough free space, flags FAT32 drives that can't hold files over 4 GB, and shows NTFS drives as read-only.
If a download is interrupted by a dropped Wi-Fi connection, an unplugged drive, an expired link, or the app being quit or the Mac restarting, Unthrottled picks up where it left off instead of starting over. When the connection drops, it waits and reconnects by itself. For an expired link, you paste a fresh link for the same file and it continues from where it stopped. Transfer pages open in a built-in browser, where you click the page's own Download button and Unthrottled takes over. It is designed with services like FileRunner and WeTransfer in mind.
Unthrottled also keeps your Mac awake while files download, notifies you when they are on the drive, and skips any file already on the drive with the same name and size. It never slows a download down, going as fast as the server and your connection allow. The app needs to be running to download, and it only downloads the links you give it, onto the drive you choose; nothing is uploaded anywhere.
