About
Updatest is a Mac app for discovering and installing app updates. It has joined Workbrew and is now free. It works with Homebrew, the Mac App Store, Sparkle, Electron, and GitHub Releases. Updatest scans each app to find supported update sources using the app's own internal metadata, and it is fully automatic. If no source is detected, you can add a manual source or use the optional Updatest Network to discover versions from other Updatest users. Homebrew is recommended for full update detection, and the app requires macOS 15.0 or later.
Updatest also provides a visual interface for Homebrew, including formulae updates for command-line tools and one-click updates in place of remembering brew upgrade commands. It can show download URLs where available, along with app details such as version numbers, bundle IDs, file sizes, developer info, code signing, notarization, and permission requirements. Updatest requires App Management permission to update applications; without it, macOS will show notifications that Updatest was prevented from modifying apps.
Privacy is presented as a core promise: the site says there are no ads and no tracking, and you control what is shared. Discovered apps stay on your Mac, while versions are shared anonymously to power the Updatest Network only if you choose to contribute. Sharing can be turned off at any time, and you can ignore specific apps. Update checks are compared locally on your Mac, with minimal network usage.
