About
VirtualBuddy is a free, open-source Mac app that virtualizes macOS 12 and later on Apple Silicon machines through a graphical interface. It aims to help developers who need to test their apps on multiple versions of macOS, especially betas. You can install a macOS virtual machine from a list of versions that VirtualBuddy provides, from your own IPSW link, or from an IPSW you have already downloaded. It can also boot some ARM-based Linux distributions, such as Ubuntu Server and Ubuntu Desktop.
The app includes a built-in installation wizard and supports features such as recovery mode, networking and file sharing, clipboard sharing, customizing virtual machine hardware, and saving and restoring macOS virtual machine state. Folders can be shared between the host and the virtual machine, and the VirtualBuddyGuest app adds clipboard sharing and automatic mounting of shared folders on supported macOS versions.
VirtualBuddy requires an Apple Silicon Mac running macOS 13 or later. It can be downloaded from GitHub releases or installed with Homebrew using `brew install --cask virtualbuddy`. Support for the project is available through Gumroad or GitHub sponsorship.
