About
VirtualC64 turns your Apple Macintosh into a Commodore 64. It emulates both PAL and NTSC, with a strong emphasis on PAL emulation accuracy, and its cycle-accurate emulation achieves high accuracy. It supports all common C64 media formats: disks as D64, T64, PRG, P00, or G64 files, datasette tapes as TAP, and cartridges as CRT. Input options include keyboard emulation, external USB joysticks such as the Speedlink Competition Pro and Sony Dualshock 4, and original Commodore joysticks via the RetroFun! USB adapter.
On first launch, you add four ROM images by drag-and-drop, because they are not pre-installed. If you lack legal access to the original Commodore ROMs, you can install free ROM replacements from the Mega65 project with one click in the ROM configuration panel. The core emulator is also compatible with WebAssembly, so a web version can run in your browser, and spin-offs VC64Web and Neoartcr offer other WebAssembly ports.
VirtualC64 is built on three principles: easy, clean, and free. It is open-source software published under the GNU General Public License, and its CPU core has been re-licensed under the MIT license.
