About
VSCodium is a community-driven, freely licensed binary distribution of Microsoft's VS Code editor. Microsoft's vscode source code is open source under the MIT license, but the downloadable Visual Studio Code product uses a non-FLOSS license and contains telemetry/tracking. The VSCodium project builds the vscode repository without Microsoft-specific customizations, so its binaries are MIT-licensed and telemetry is disabled.
On a Mac, VSCodium can be installed with Homebrew if you have it set up, using the command brew install --cask vscodium. Latest releases are also available for download, and VSCodium is offered for Windows, Mac OS, and Linux.
Mac OS X Mojave users may see a message saying Apple cannot check the app for malicious software when they first open VSCodium. In that case, right-click the application and choose Open. This is only required the first time on Mojave.
