About
Waterfox is a free, open source web browser for macOS, Windows, Linux, and Android. It focuses on privacy out of the box and on customisation to your taste. Ad blocking is built in and enabled by default, DNS lookups are private and anonymised, and the browser has no telemetry and no data collection. You don't need an account to browse.
Waterfox includes a range of other features. Private tabs sit alongside regular tabs and share a separate private container, and the browser clears that site data when you close your last private tab. Tree tabs group each page under the tab that opened it, so you can collapse or move whole branches of browsing. The status bar shows where a link leads and displays the full URL. You can also adjust the browser style, colour palette, light or dark mode, and horizontal or vertical tab layout.
Waterfox uses the same Gecko engine as Firefox, so most sites and Firefox WebExtensions work as expected. It incorporates Mozilla security fixes into its regular updates, following the Firefox ESR model. Waterfox is funded through search partnerships, optional Waterfox Private Search subscriptions, and donations, and you can change your search provider or block partner search ads at any time.
