Wheel Wizard

About

Wheel Wizard is a free, open-source mod manager for Mario Kart Wii, built for convenience. The developers note that Retro Rewind and the related mods can all be set up without the app, but Wheel Wizard aims to make the process possible with just a few clicks. The project is still in active development, with more features planned.

To use it, you need a Mario Kart Wii game backup that you have dumped yourself. Accepted formats include .iso, .gcm, .gcz, .ciso, .wbfs, .wia, and .rvz. Depending on what you want to play, a specific game version may be required. The app is released under the GNU GPL v3.0 license, and the developers say it is completely free to use. Once installed, it notifies you when updates are available, and support and discussion take place on their Discord.

The project's README also addresses antivirus false positives: some software, including Windows Defender, may incorrectly flag Wheel Wizard. The developers suggest using the latest version, submitting the executable to Microsoft for analysis, adding an antivirus exception, building the program from the included source, or checking the file on VirusTotal. They say they are submitting releases to antivirus vendors and exploring code signing.
