About
Wireshark is a free, open-source network protocol analyzer that lets you capture and interactively browse the traffic running on a computer network. It provides deep inspection of hundreds of protocols. For Mac users, the site offers a macOS Universal Disk Image in the stable release, and separate Arm and Intel disk images for the previous stable release.
Wireshark is free software with no license fee, and the version you download is the full version, not a demo. Its source code is available under the GNU General Public License version 2. The project is maintained by the non-profit Wireshark Foundation and supported by a community of contributors and users. The software is available in over 20 languages.
The site describes Wireshark as a tool for network diagnostics, helping users identify bottlenecks, troubleshoot issues, and understand network protocols and traffic patterns. Tutorials and resources are available on the Learn page and the project's YouTube channel.
