About
Wolfram Engine is a locally downloadable engine for putting computational intelligence into your applications. On macOS, it can be installed through Homebrew with the command brew install --cask wolfram-engine. It can also be installed on Windows with winget and on Linux, and it is available as a Docker image. The engine automatically accesses the Wolfram Knowledgebase and downloads any resources it needs.
You can use the engine from the command line with WolframScript, from Python through the wolframclient library, or from C and C++ through WSTP (Wolfram Symbolic Transfer Protocol). The examples on the site show calls such as GeoPosition[Here], a sentiment classification, a sunrise time calculation, and image identification with ImageIdentify. Interfaces listed include the command-line interface, notebook interfaces, a web API, and Python, C, and Java library interfaces.
Wolfram Engine Community Edition is free for pre-production software development. It can be used to develop a product for yourself or your company, to conduct personal projects, and to explore the Wolfram Language for future production projects. After downloading, you get a free license by signing in with a Wolfram ID and accepting the terms of use. The Community Edition includes a license for Wolfram Cloud Basic. Production and OEM licensing options are offered separately.
