About
WordCraft is an open-source word processor built in pure Rust. It offers a familiar workflow with the ribbon, styles, tables, track changes, references and mail merge. It runs natively on macOS, Windows, Linux and BSD, and in the browser via WebAssembly.
WordCraft opens and saves .docx files, and also works with .odt, .rtf, .html, .md, .tex (LaTeX) and .txt. It can open legacy 97-2003 .doc files and export PDFs with real, selectable text, links and bookmarks. Its tools include track changes with comment balloons, tables of contents, footnotes, citations in APA, MLA, Chicago or IEEE, themes, watermarks, and picture editing such as cropping and recolouring.
The project emphasizes speed and privacy. Paragraph layout is cached, so typing in a 188-page document re-lays it out in about 1.4 ms. Spelling and grammar checking work offline. WordCraft is licensed under MIT OR Apache-2.0 and was built clean-room from public specifications and observation.
